Paired for lunch

Local Audiologists in Blackwood, South Australia, Menolly Fishlock and Erin Walsh recently hosted a group of Can:Do Hearing clients to trial hearing aids in a noisy atmosphere.

The lunch was supported through hearing aid manufacturer "Signia-Pro".

Signia representative, Sharna Raley said, "the benefit to the client is the ability to try the latest available hearing aid technology in a real-world environment with friends or family – without obligation. We know having lunch at a restaurant or café is a challenging listening environment in particular for those with hearing loss and this experience allows the hearing technology to shine."

The ability to pair the TV using Bluetooth, directional hearing to block out the road noise behind the group, and the Hearing Aid's own mobile phone 'app' providing gentle waves crashing on the beach noises (that only those with Tinnitus may understand) certainly got everyone talking!

While the technology, tests and interventions in audiology may have changed over 70 years, the fundamental core of audiology, to assist people in their communication ability and interactions within their daily life has remained unchanged.

Mel says, "I get to know what clients want from their life and from me as their audiologist, as well as what they value in their communications with the world. This allows me to then work with clients to get to a point where they understand their hearing and have the confidence to manage their hearing loss."

Erin says, "Helping people with their hearing issues really does improve their quality of life. I enjoy educating people on the importance of ear and hearing health and assisting individuals in improving their hearing and speech comprehension."
